Jen is looking forward to spending an entire summer studying abroad on a cruise ship and she knows the experience will change her life. Then she sees something she wasn’t supposed to see, something she can’t explain. Jen finds herself thrust into a world she never knew existed and her life will change more than she imagined. That is, if she can survive the dangers lurking on the ship.
A friend of mine introduced me to this series and I must say I was pleasantly surprised. Having recently jumped on the YA band wagon I found this to be a great starting point.
Our main character, Jen accidently sees something that she can’t explain and in that brief moment her entire world changes. Jen discovers that there is a world of magic out there and she is a part of it. Through the help of her new friends Thomas, TS, Danio, Char and Marianna, Jen is rediscovering herself, learning to be a witch and trying to save the ship from vampires. There is even a new budding romance on the horizon for her.
The book was chopped full of action and was fast paced. A definite page turner. I immediately purchased the 2nd book in the series, Snow Bound, upon finishing. I look forward to following this author and seeing what is next for these characters.
After learning how to use magic and fighting vampires, anyone would be bored going back to normal college life. As if that wasn’t enough, Jen didn’t realize how hard it would be to tiptoe around her non-magic family and friends. She can’t even talk to her familiar, Rak, without making sure no one else is around! Worst of all, Jen misses the friends she made over the summer. Aside from Rak, they’re the only other magics she knows and she hasn’t seen them in almost five months!
Jen is all too happy to accept an invitation to go skiing with the gang. She gears up for two weeks of snow, magic, and fun. Just when everything seems to be going great, an uninvited guest turns up. Soon the skiers aren’t the only things going downhill. Jen thought that vampires were just about the most dangerous thing the magical world could throw at her. Unfortunately, she’s about to learn that people with no magic at all can be just as deadly …
I was very excited to read Snow Bound after finishing Semester Abroad and it did not disappoint. In the 2nd installment we learn that Jen must keep her new skills as a witch a secret from all non magic people. She has been unable to share her experiences with her family, most notably her cousin, Shannon. Understandably Jen is very excited to be going on a ski vacation with Charlie, Danio, Marianna, TS, Thomas and Ember. Finally she wont have to hide who she really is and she can explore her feelings for Thomas. Of course their vacation is interrupted by the werewolf renting a house next door with his non magic girlfriend, a stalker, and then Shannon shows up unexpectedly to add more chaos to the mix. The gang must defend themselves from the werewolf as well as an unknown attacker all while trying to hide their powers from Shannon. Shannon is too smart for her own good and this is where the mayhem begins. Snow Bound was even better that than Semester Abroad.
Again the author has delivered another action packed page turner. These characters are all well developed and defined. I want to leap into the page so I can hang out with them. I can not wait till Danio’s story is published.
Hear Danio’s story, told by the people who know him best. The ones who knew him when all of his laughter was genuine. The ones who were there through the worst that life could throw at him. And the ones who stayed by his side while he picked up the pieces.
An adult, short story collection, based on the Young Adult series, More than Magic. Contains strong language, violence, and sex.
Everything you ever wanted to know about Danio!!!!! If you have read Semester Abroad and Snow Bound and was curious about the untold past of Danio, this book is for you! If you are new to the series I recommend you read them in order.
In Danio’s Prelude we get tracks or stories from characters like Jen, Thomas, Marianna and Char from the MTM series as well as new characters like Danio’s Legion Brothers. We learn about Danio’s childhood with Pike, his time in the military as a member of the Legion, how he met the other characters from MTM, and how he was introduced to MES. Everything you ever wanted to know about Danio is answered. Elizabeth Kirke delivers as promised. Nothing is off limits. From the scars on his abs to his smokin’ hot first encounter with Char! I highly recommend this book and this series.
